During the three weeks starting May 11th and ending May 31st, the various problems facing the Korean machinery industries presently and in the period 1982-1986 were discussed with government officials and financiers, and businessman and trade association representatives. At the meeting with Mr. Lee Yoon Jae of the EPB, it was mutually agreed on selecting the two, out of the four subjects laid down in the term of reference of the World Bank. This preliminary report is submitted to the Government of Korea in accordance with the instruction received from the Bank.
